Meet Aunie Brooks

Full name: Andrea Michelle Brooks
Nick Name: Aunie
Aunie’s family: My husband, Clayton, and son Connor
Ministry Role: As the Children’s Pastor, I am responsible for the development and implementation of all Epic Kids programs at the church for ages 0 – 11. You will most likely find me in the North Auditorium in Epic Kids' Church on Sunday mornings or in Mangrum Hall with the kids' small groups on Wednesday nights.
Dream vacation: One of those year-long cruises that visits the entire globe
What's your regular order at Starbucks: Raspberry Latte (I’ve had workers at Starbucks tell me I’m the only customer who orders that drink. I don’t know why; it’s really good!)
Favorite movie: Gone With The Wind
Life motto: Why put off until tomorrow what you can do today?
Favorite scripture: James 3:17-18 “But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness.”
Things that fascinate me: Psychology and the human mind
People who inspire me are: My husband and my parents
Previous jobs: Teacher and Assistant Principal with Life School
One thing that most people don't know about me: I love fondue and own 6 fondue pots of my own!
I've been in ministry before I was a teacher. I worked on staff with the children’s ministry at the Oaks for four years while attending SAGU.
When and where did you get saved: I don’t remember an exact moment. I’ve been blessed to grow up in a home where believing in God was always a part of who I was. It’s truly a blessing to look back on my life and never remember a time when I really didn’t know God. Maybe that’s why I believe in children’s ministry so much. If we can show kids at a young age how awesome God really is, they won’t need to look elsewhere for answers later down the road.
Music that moves me: My husband’s of course. Is there really anyone else worth listening to?
Favorite singer or band: Once again, my husband! (Plus that’s the only person my son will let us listen to in the car. “I wanna hear Daddy singin!”
Peeves: People chewing on ice – it has the same effect on me as when someone scrapes nails on a chalkboard.
Life-changing moment: The day I had a positive pregnancy test
Fears: Losing my loved ones
Favorite book: Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers – and of course the Bible.
Quirks: I like to create plans for everything and go over the plan again and again with anyone who will listen to it. It drives my husband crazy since he’s usually the one who has to listen to the “plan for the day.”
In my spare time I... read, watch TV, and get coffee with some close friends.
Least favorite food: Brussel sprouts
What makes you laugh? When people trip and fall – as long as they don’t get hurt. Before you think I’m horrible, note that I never laugh in the moment. But afterwards I will play the scene over and over in my head and laugh hysterically.
What is weird about you? I eat all my sandwiches and hamburgers dry – no one seems to understand that about me.
The most exotic place you've ever been to: Zhengzhou, China - I spent a summer teaching Chinese students to speak English. It was one of the coolest experiences of my life.
The most adventurous thing you've ever done: A 2 hour horseback riding trip in mountains in China with only two native Chinese people who did not speak English. It was actually very scary!
Least favorite thing to do: Water the lawn – I’m ready to invest in a sprinkler system!
